Whilst the 2022 vintage was hot, the favourable microclimate of
DOC Bolgheri Sassicaia allowed for a good balance between
acidity and freshness. Autumn initially recorded below-average
temperatures, with abundant rainfall and a drop in temperature at
the end of November, which favoured the vegetative halt of the
plants and the natural elimination of pests. Rain continued in
winter, ensuring a good water reserve. Spring began with aboveaverage temperatures, interrupted by a sudden and brief
temperature drop that led to a reduction of buds in the early
vineyards. This reduced the load on the plants and allowed for
correct pigmentation and maturation of the grapes. Summer was
characterised by intense heat, but thanks to the microclimate of
Bolgheri and the hilltop location of the vineyards, no signs of
distress were observed. A significant rain in mid-August led to a
temperature drop, favouring the proper maturation of the grapes.
“The 2022 vintage was neither easy nor generous in terms of yield.
However, the quality of the grapes - especially the Cabernet
Sauvignon from hillside vineyards - exceeded expectations. The
vintage stands out for its freshness, with higher total acidity
compared to previous years, lower alcohol levels, and reduced dry
extract. During the harvest, we acted promptly, using controlled
temperatures during winemaking and moderate délestage to
avoid excessive tannin extraction. We are pleased with the results,
although, as always, time and the wine’s ageing process will
