Marcillac Lo Sang del Pais Domaine du Cros, Mansois, supple, raspberry, rustic red wine. Marcillac is a tiny obscure appellation near Clairvaux in Aveyron comprising some eight growers. The wines here are made exclusively from the Mansois grape, otherwise known as Fer or Fer Servadou in Gaillac. Domaine du Cros makes two styles, the basic Lo Sang del Païs which is quite supple with juicy raspberry flavours underpinned by slate and gravel notes is for fresh early drinking and is delicious chilled down slightly with a BBQ. The more serious aged wine spends 18 months in old oak casks and expresses all sorts of dark fruits and intense forresty flavours. Made from 80 year old vines it is delicious wine and a fantastic value Vin de Garde.

Domaine du Cros is a 30 hectare estate within Marcillac, one of the smallest appellations in France, run by Phillipe et Julien Teulier. They grow mainly Fer Savadou, with a bit of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Whilst not a natural winery, they are guarding the traditions and local grape varieties of the area. Their vines, even for the basic cuvée are a minimum of 25 years old.
