Montes Folly is Chile’s most celebrated Syrah — and the name says it all. When Aurelio Montes planted Syrah on the near-vertical slopes of the Apalta Vineyard, his peers called it folly. The wine proved them spectacularly wrong. Deep violet in the glass, it opens with intense aromas of ripe red and black fruits, sweet spices and subtle toast, with beautifully integrated French oak adding notes of coffee and dark chocolate. On the palate, it is well-balanced, complex and elegant, with round tannins, tremendous structure and a long, pleasing finish. Suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
