Mount Horrocks Watervale Shiraz

The Mount Horrocks Shiraz was produced from an estate owned single vineyard in Watervale, Clare Valley.

Vintage information

The 2010 vintage ran smoothly in all respects. There were no significant heat waves, an early budburst and no disease pressure. As a result, the vines were not stressed and produced fruit of exceptional quality. Harvest for all varieties was earlier than normal.

The fruit was hand picked and fermented to dryness on the skins to improve structure. 10% was whole-bunch, foot-crushed in open fermenters and the rest in red wine fermenters, pumped over five times a day with maximum temperatures reaching 28-30C. It was racked into barriques and aged for 18 months in French oak, of which 40% was new, the rest one and two years old.

Tasting Notes

Deep bright black cherry. Very attractive plush dark fruit aromas, plum and star anise spice. Silky smooth and elegant in the mouth, with masses of dark fruit and spice, fine-grained tannins and very smart French oak influences. A wine of great purity and focus, generous yet sophisticated, delivering an identifiably Australian Shiraz yet in the very modern mould.
