Errazuriz Single Vineyard Sangiovese

The grapes that go into our Single Vineyard Sangiovese are grown in the Ocoa vineyard, 50 km (31 mi) from the Pacific Ocean in the intermediate sector of the Valle de Aconcagua. The climate in this vineyard is generally drier and has a greater daily temperature variance than more coastal areas. Its average annual temperature is 15ºC (59ºF) and precipitation, which ranges from 250 to 300 mm (9.8–11.8 in) per year, increases with altitude. The soils are of colluvial origin and were formed by deposits of debris and earth; they are composed of a rather shallow loam-textured layer over a matrix of subsoil that is also loam with 30% stones. The texture lends excellent drainage and moderate vigour, which generates a balanced canopy distribution. This vineyard was planted in 1994, primarily with clone R24, but also with Sangiovese Piccolo, which has small berries and an intensely fruity character. The vineyard is drip irrigated, high-density planted, spur-pruned, and vertically positioned.
